What:

A pre-phonics program designed to fill the gap left when young learners don’t start their reading education hearing and speaking with the same set of speech sounds that the curriculum uses.

How:

The Wolf Method uses kinesthetic and visual cueing to fill the learner’s knowledge of speech sounds until they can hear and identify the full complement used by the American phonics curriculum. We use short rounds of music and play, combining group and individual instruction.

Why:

The fundamental misunderstanding — that all of us hear the same set of speech sounds — can leave some of our youngest and most vulnerable learners behind at the very beginning of their educational careers. This small, but crucial, difference so early when learning to read can add up to a massive impact down the line. This program is targeted to serve some of the highest need members of our pre-kindergarten community, including low-income and English-language-learning students.
